KnoxClayton Architects have been involved in a range of projects in Craigavon Area Hospital, the most recent being the design and construction of a new Ambulatory Care Unit, a first for the Hospital. The new unit is adjacent to the main hospital entrance, close to the existing emergency department.

The Ambulatory Care Unit (sometimes called ACU) is a new service, which offers same day care to patients at the hospital. This means that patients are assessed, diagnosed, treated and are able to go home the same day, without being admitted into hospital overnight. The aim is to provide a better overall experience for patients.

The initial project works involved the relocation of existing services occupying the space required. Works progressed rapidly thereafter. An important aspect of the project was to minimise disruption to existing services in the busiest part of the hospital.
