Rathcoole Gardens Social Housing required the replacement of 3 no. existing apartment buildings with 23 no. 2 bedroom apartments for the elderly and 5 no. wheelchair units on a brownfield site. Designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. With key views towards Belfast Lough, Cavehill and Carnmoney Hill each apartment was designed with their own private space, this included an individual balcony to each first floor unit. This has given the residents a sense of ownership and combined with the internal courtyard space has promoted a sense of community and provided and focal point encouraging social interaction.
